IIT BOMBAY, IIT KHARAGPUR, IIT KANPUR AND IIT MADRAS students propose to organize a human chain formation at Gandhi Mandapam Road (from CLRI Bus Stop to Kotturpuram Police Station) from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 24, 2013.
The event is organized to create awareness and sensitize the SOCEITY regarding the human rights violations and genocide in Sri Lanka as a part of a coordinated protest with other IITs (each at their respective institutions). It is also to express discontent against the US backed resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council that happened recently. We demand that the following actions be taken up:
- An independent inquiry into the alleged human rights violations that occurred during the final phase of the civil war in Sri Lanka.
- An early political settlement for the Tamils in Sri Lanka through holding a referendum.
Students, staff who are sympathetic to the cause and willing to participate are requested to be present at kotturpuram road by 5:00 PM tomorrow (Sunday, March 24, 2013).
